Job Duties
Hiram W. Davis Medical Center is one of 12 inpatient facilities operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
Hiram W. Davis Medical Center located in Petersburg Virginia is a 94-bed medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses skilled care intermediate care and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize post-surgery rehabilitation or long-term care.
Unit Manager will supervise entire unit engaged in direct nursing care and implementation of treatment plans for assigned unit. Serves as one of Nursing Unit Managers (NUM). Assist Chief Nurse Executive assist in the daily management of the department including the administration organization supervision and evaluation of all activities and patient care. Assists in quality assurance activities and assures compliance with Agency Departmental and accrediting Agencies policies procedures rules and regulations. Perform lower level nursing duties as needed such as charge nurse duties admissions discharges and unit rounds. Oversee Fine dining Restorative program perform audits and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of professional nursing supervising and administrative principles and practices; basic knowledge of budgeting and scheduling; knowledge of legal requirements affecting nursing practices. Considerable skill in advanced nursing procedures specifically in a med-surgical psychiatric or geriatric field. Demonstrated ability to work independently to evaluate program and staff performance to develop standards of care and operational procedures to perform patient assessment to troubleshoot problems and to establish priorities.
Minimum Qualifications
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
Experience in staff supervision performance management and employee development.
Experience managing clinical operations regulatory compliance and quality improvement processes.
Experience with staffing coordination scheduling and workforce management.
Additional Considerations
Experience working in a healthcare behavioral health long-term care or institutional setting preferred.
