JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator of Accessibility ensures that students with documented disabilities receive timely appropriate and legally compliant academic housing and dining accommodations. The role manages the review of disability documentation approval and implementation of accommodations coordination of testing services supervision of front desk student workers and collaboration with campus partners to support equitable access. Through these functions the Coordinator advances institutional compliance with the ADA and Section 504 while promoting student success and inclusive excellence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Review and evaluate disability documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations in compliance with the ADA and Section 504 ensuring decisions are legally sound timely and properly documented.

  • Approve implement and manage academic housing and dining accommodations through the institutions accommodations system ensuring accurate communication to students faculty and relevant campus partners.

  • Administer and oversee the testing accommodation process including scheduling monitoring and ensuring the integrity of proctored exams which requires consistent on-campus presence due to direct student interaction and exam security responsibilities.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for students with disabilities meeting individually with students to guide them through the interactive process explain accommodation procedures and support equitable access to academic and campus life.

  • Supervise and direct front desk student workers including training oversight of exam proctoring responsibilities and ensuring professional and compliant handling of confidential student information.

  • Coordinate with internal and external partners including the Registrar Residential Life Dining Services faculty and vendors (e.g. ASL interpreters and transcription providers) to ensure timely and effective accommodation implementation.

  • Manage vendor services and submit accommodation-related invoices for payment approval ensuring uninterrupted provision of essential access services.

  • Maintain accurate confidential records and case notes within the accommodations management system to ensure regulatory compliance and institutional risk mitigation.

  • Monitor and track accommodation requests and renewals to ensure no lapse in student access identifying and addressing delays or compliance risks proactively.

  • Represent the Office of Accessibility Services at campus events and institutional programs (e.g. Open Houses Orientation) providing accurate information about disability access and supporting the Universitys commitment to inclusive excellence.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: 1-3 years of relevant work experience preferably in a higher education setting.

  • Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills proficiency with accessibility-related technology and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations

  • Commitment: A proven commitment to the ideals of Simmons University particularly in fostering an inclusive and equitable environment.

  • Personality: Friendly approachable and responsible with a genuine passion for supporting student success.

  • Education: bachelors degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years in a higher education setting

  • Experience with accessibility offices

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • On-campus with one day per week hybrid

  • 12 months per year

  • 40 hours/ week

  • Office environment

  • Exposures encountered such as hazardous materials loud noise or extreme heat/cold.

  • Essential physical requirements include using computer in an office environment interacting with students in person and via zoom communicating verbally with faculty staff and students

  • Physical effort/lifting light - up to 20 pounds

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws effective October 29 2025 Simmons University is committed to pay equity transparency and clear communication throughout the hiring process. The hourly or annual salary range for this position is:

S05$39100.00 - $63400.00

This is benefits eligible position.
