Job Summary

  1. Primary Purpose
The Coordinator Birth Parent Services and Outreach work closely with the Senior Manager to support birth and expectant parents by providing options counseling education in the adoption process psychosocial histories hospital and community visits infant discharges meetings with adoptive families assistance with placements or returns and referrals to community resources. The role also advances SpenceChapins Domestic Adoption Programs by delivering outreach and education throughout Upstate New York supporting recruitment of prospective birth parent clients training healthcare providers schools religious organizations and social service agencies and collecting data to strengthen outreach efforts. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with strong organizational and writing skills who excels in building positive relationships. This full-time in-person position requires work within Upstate New York and offers a salary of $63000$72000 commensurate with experience.

Key Performance Indicators Counseling and Case Management:
  • Recruit clients for Spence-Chapins Domestic Adoption Program including women who are pregnant or have recently given birth who need Spence-Chapins options counseling services.
  • Build new relationships with relevant healthcare and social service organizations through emails direct mail site visits community events and in-service presentations.
  • Solicit book and conduct training about Spence-Chapins services for relevant professionals and organizations.
  • Educate local schools religious organizations and social service providers about Spence-Chapins services and adoption programs: Collect information and data as instructed to improve Spence-Chapins outreach efforts
  • Support in developing and implementing an outreach strategy to reach women and couples in need of pregnancy options counseling
  • Participate in placement and return of infants
  • Provide short-term supportive and bereavement counselling to clients who have placed a child
  • Participate in answering birth parent inquiry calls to the organizations 24-hour toll-free birthparent telephone line including some night and weekend coverage
  • Actively participate in weekly supervision with direct supervisor
  • Perform any other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor
  • Participating in organization-wide events
  1. Key Competencies
  • Must be open and flexible to the demands of the on-call schedule and field work including some weekends and evenings
  • Demonstrated strong clinical and assessment skills
  • Strong oral and written communication presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Public speaking
  • Must be comfortable providing options counseling and explaining all options to clients
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to multitask; strong execution skills; thorough follow through and attention to detail
  • Located in upstate NY
  1. Education & Experience
  • Bachelors or masters degree in a related field is preferred
  • A minimum of two years MSW experience
  • Must have a valid drivers license and a clean driving record
  • Experience in adoption and/or pregnancy counselling preferred; must have at least one year of counseling
  1. Technical Skills
  • MS Office -Proficiency in Word Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with database platforms and entering case notes
  • Must be willing to travel frequently between various counties for case work and outreach responsibilities
