Job Summary

Position Summary

Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Alabama Community College System policy.

Salary: Appropriate placement onACCS Salary Schedule D: $45676 $92513 (9 months)
An additional summer assignment may be available: $14102 $28612 (3 months)

(Salary placement within this range is determined by your academic credentials and documented years of full-time related work experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day evening or weekend on the Decatur or Huntsville Campus or at other sites including dual enrollment traditional classroom hybrid or web format and distance education including off-site supervision of students at field experience sites.
  2. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
  3. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional divisional departmental and individual criteria.
  4. Collect maintain and submit accurate class records including grades attendance rosters absences withdrawal and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
  5. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested including course syllabi program outlines and catalog material.
  6. Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
  7. Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
  8. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
  9. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  10. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  11. Serve as a liaison to various regional state and national organizations related to Child Development including obtaining and maintain accreditation through NAEYC.
  12. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  13. Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge improving teaching skills and updating professional competencies.
  14. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses industries and agencies.
  15. Perform all duties with professionalism.
  16. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
  17. Serve on institutional local and/or statewide committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution or program.
  18. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog Personnel Handbook and Alabama Community College System Policy; and follow such policies and procedures.
  19. Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a Masters degree from an accredited institution with at least 18 gradate semester hours in Child Development or Early Childhood is required. Childhood Development Associate (CDA) advisors training preferred.
  2. Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom is required.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in the subject area is required.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

  1. Documented evidence in the proficiency of use of internet e-mail and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word PowerPoint etc.);
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  3. Ability to coordinate and supervise laboratory students;
  4. Administrative or work experience in a childcare setting;
  5. Creativity and leadership abilities;
  6. Ability to communicate and work effectively and pleasantly with small children diverse students other employees and the public;
  7. Demonstrated experience with establishing partnerships involving business and industry entities as well as 4-year institutions;
  8. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
  9. Previous experience using WebCT Blackboard or other course management software from an instructor standpoint;
  10. Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy and new software;
  11. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system;
  12. Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  13. Commitment to all students including those of diverse ages cultures and ethnic backgrounds;
  14. Successful problem solving skills;
  15. Successful college teaching experience;
  16. Conscientious- care about how work is done and wanting to do a good job;
  17. Initiative- responding to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work;
  18. A focus on detail;
  19. Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that learning;
  20. A positive attitude regardless of circumstances at hand;
