PROGRAM DIRECTOR WHO WE ARE The Mayerson JCC connects people so that they can live happier and fuller lives creating a more vibrant Jewish community. The JCC helps to foster social connections between its members and guests alike bringing people together through a wide variety of programs and events. With an expansive fitness center highly regarded early childhood school and senior center arts and cultural events offered throughout the year and classes for every age the JCC connects enriches and inspires over 50000 visitors per month. The JCC welcomes and engages everyone regardless of race religion or ability. Position SummaryThe Programming Director (PD) provides strategic leadership supervision and operational oversight for all Mayerson JCC programming in the following areas: - Arts and Culture
- Children and Family programming (ongoing classes and special events)
- Inclusion programming
- March of the Living
- Camp at the J (in partnership with the Camp Director)
- Sports and recreational programming including leagues and instruction for children and adults
The PD partners closely with the Camp Director to support hiring camper recruitment and day-to-day camp operations as needed. This position reports directly to the Chief Programming Officer and serves as a member of the Management Team. The PD is responsible for leading department heads in program quality participation budget management staff supervision and revenue growth opportunities. In partnership with the Chief Programming Officer and the Director of Jewish Life the PD develops and implements strategy and annual goals that advance the mission of the Mayerson JCC and serve the broader Cincinnati Jewish community. While the JCC leads its own programming efforts it also plays a collaborative leadership role within the larger Jewish community. The PD is expected to support partnerships and strengthen relationships across organizations when appropriate. The PD also contributes to organizational strategy policy development and fundraising efforts in collaboration with the Director of Development and CEO and may interact with and present to the Board of Directors. Essential Functions Leadership and Organizational Strategy- In coordination with the CPO and executive team contribute to strategic planning service delivery and organizational management.
- Lead department heads in maintaining high-quality programming strong participation levels and sound fiscal performance within approved budgets.
- Identify and develop revenue growth opportunities across program areas.
- Create and sustain a high-performing mission-aligned culture within the Programming Department.
- Foster cross-department collaboration to ensure cohesive and integrated program delivery.
Staff Supervision and Development- Directly supervise program directors managers and coordinators.
- Build leadership capacity by mentoring department heads and strengthening supervisory skills.
- Provide clear expectations ongoing feedback and structured performance support.
- Guide staff in proactive program planning evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Ensure strong communication practices within each department including written plans reflections meetings newsletters and other member-facing updates.
Program Quality Participation and Member Experience- Ensure a high level of member and customer service is maintained across all departments.
- Monitor participation trends and program performance to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
- Actively supervise and mentor staff to strengthen communication with program users and members.
- Ensure consistent varied and effective communication methods are implemented across programming areas.
Data Evaluation and Accountability- Develop and supervise systems for narrative and statistical recording of program activities.
- Use data to assess program quality participation financial performance and member experience.
- Regularly review performance metrics with department heads and adjust strategies as needed.
Financial Stewardship and Operational Oversight- Participate in annual budget development and maintain fiscal responsibility within approved budgets.
- Authorize program purchases of equipment services and supplies and approve related expenditures from direct reports.
- Ensure resources are deployed efficiently and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Work in partnership with the Director of Development and CEO to support fundraising efforts related to programming initiatives.
Position Qualifications- Bachelors Degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in programming event planning or related field.
- Prior supervisory and management experience required.
- Jewish communal or nonprofit experience preferred.
- Strong leadership staff development and supervisory skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Depth of Jewish knowledge preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as programming requires.
