- Represent DFPS in court hearings bench trials jury trials and required non-court meetings.
- Review investigate and prosecute civil cases; present cases before judges and juries.
- Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings motions discovery and briefs.
- Collaborate with DFPS caseworkers supervisors regional attorneys attorneys ad litem and CASA supervisors and volunteers.
- Provide 24/7 legal advice during on-call weeks (every third week).
- Mentor and assist other employees; assign and review work as needed.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.
- Licensed by the Texas Supreme Court. Certified in the Federal District Court Southern District of Texas and Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience; preference for family law and child protective services.
- Strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with the public colleagues and elected officials.
- Valid Texas Drivers License is required.
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $4062.40 - $5078.40 biweekly based on qualifications
