About the opportunity

The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) is a world-class centre of excellence for innovative relevant and globally distinctive marine research and education at the University of Tasmania.

The Data Management section within IMAS is responsible for the management of data and information systems.

As our new Senior Research Data Analyst you will provide a comprehensive information service related to data holdings at IMAS and partner organisations. You will be responsible for designing implementing and maintaining best practice end to end data workflows for research data hardware and software infrastructure.

You will work closely with and provide expert advice to researchers from IMAS and partner organisations on the management analytics code creation and optimisation visualisation and publishing of data collected or generated.

What youll do:

  • Work with and provide expert advice to researchers across IMAS and partner organisations continuing to ensure the adoption of best data management practice.
  • Provide training and education to researchers regarding data management best practice and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with relevant IT and data management staff from the University and partner to ensure operational availability of complex IT hardware and software infrastructure.
  • Develop data visualisation tools where possible based on existing infrastructure and data platforms.
  • Provide expertise in managing and manipulating research datasets and in online SQL databases.
  • Build and strengthen strategic partnerships with key projects and organisations at both national and international levels.

What were looking for:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience and/or education and training.
  • An advanced understanding of best practice in data management including the FAIR data principles and management of sensitive data.
  • Extensive experience in supporting and administering IT infrastructure and applications preferably in a marine research facility.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with large datasets and associated storage environments including SQL databases.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of web applications their design development and deployment.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130943 comprising base salary within the range of $101821 to $111917 plus 17% superannuation.
