School Counselor - Bayless High School
Reports to Building Principal
Plan organize coordinate and implement the districts counseling program to successfully meet the education needs of the students in three major areas: knowledge of self and others career planning and exploration and educational and vocational development
- Masters degree in counseling or guidance and counseling
- Counselor certification issued by Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education
- Certification in Character Education
- One or two years experience in counseling and classroom experience preferred
- Implement the state and building guidance curriculum which includes developmentally appropriate activities or lessons
- Provide responsive services to groups or individuals to address immediate needs and concerns of students
- Consult with teachers parents and staff regarding the needs of students
- Conduct Care Team meetings and assist with special education referrals
- Actively engage community and refer students with severe problems to appropriate resources in consultation with their parents
- Facilitate developmentally appropriate activities which help students plan monitor and manage their individual educational and career plans
- Coordinate state and local assessments
- Evaluate and revise the building guidance program to meet student needs
- Conduct annual surveys of the school population as directed by the administration and/or model guidance program
- Participate in system support activities which contribute to the effective operation of the entire school
- Initiates and facilitates character education activities throughout the school serving as the school liaison to district events/activities
- Supports district instructional model (SIOP) through any direct instruction of guidance curriculum
- Actively participate in professional growth activities
- Become knowledgeable of common core standards and next generation assessment and implications for student/course scheduling
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned
OF EMPLOYMENT
- Ten (10) months annually
