Job Title: School Counselor
Supervisor: School Principal; Director of Student Support Services
Pay Grade: Teacher
Terms of Employment: 200 days
Job Summary:
To guide and implement programs that promote successful middle school experiences and support students academic social and emotional growth.
Essential Duties:
- Assists students in understanding their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of standardized test scores and other pertinent data and works with students involving educational and occupational plans.
- Remain readily available to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth self-understanding and maturity.
- Takes an active role in interpreting the schools objectives to students parents and the community-at-large.
- Works with teachers students and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by Student Services.
- Identifies students at risk academically socially or emotionally and collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to develop intervention plans.
- Coordinates career exploration activities including interest inventories career lessons and awareness programs.
- Partners with community agencies and organizations to support student needs and access to resources.
- Initiates assembles maintains and interprets accurate cumulative academic records attendance records and progress reports.
- Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications:
A postgraduate professional license with an endorsement as a guidance counselor is required. Teaching experience especially at the middle school level is alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.
