As MISOs Grid Research and Development Engineer II you wont just analyze problems youll help solve some of the most complex reliability challenges facing todays power grid. Youll work at the intersection of applied research and real-world operations partnering with control room experts and system operators to identify reliability risks evaluate solutions and strengthen grid resiliency. As MISOs Grid Research and Development Engineer II you will:
- Apply your understanding of power flow modeling and dynamic stability analysis using tools such as PSS/E and TSAT/VSAT to build and validate system models that support dynamic stability studies operational planning and contingency analysis.
- Use Energy Management Systems and power system modeling techniques to conduct research analyze complex cross-functional issues and translate findings into actionable operational insights.
- Cultivate data to identify trends anticipate emerging risks and deliver technical engineering solutions that improve operational reliability decision making tools processes and applications.
To be successful as our Grid Research and Development Engineer II you should have:
- A Bachelors Degree âin electrical engineering computer engineering electrical engineering technology electrical and computer engineering electrical and electronic engineering or electronics and computer engineering technology power systems engineering operations research or a related technical field and at least 2 years of experience.
- Masters or PhD Degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience in the energy industry with a strong understanding of how power systems operate in real-world environments.
- Experience in applied power research (academia lab or industry research teams) is a plus - especially if youve delivered practical solutions that created measurable value for a business or the broader industry.
- Experience conducting power flow and dynamic stability analysis using commercial applications such as PSS/E TSAT VSAT
- Exposure or experience with Automatic Generation Control (AGC) State Estimation Contingency Analysis SCADA or Day Ahead Market operations is preferred.
- Exposure with or supporting Energy Management Systems (EMS) and related applications is a plus.
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $96000 - $113000 USDannually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors including but not limited to location of the role individual competencies education/professional certifications and qualifications/experience.
Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. At MISO we offer a comprehensive benefits package including 401k vacation sick and safe time available on your first day of employment.
