Serve as a trusted advisor on a range of legal and regulatory issues and guide stakeholders on how those legal requirements are internally documented and maintained.
As Counsel in the Office of Legal Obligations you will be responsible for helping the Legal Department document JPMorgan Chases material legal obligations and monitor for related legal and regulatory changes. The Office of Legal Obligations is a global firmwide program responsible for developing and executing a sustainable infrastructure and process that (i) documents JPMorgan Chases obligations arising from material laws regulations and rules and (ii) connects the obligations to policies when applicable as well as to procedures or other documentation that support compliance with those laws regulations and rules. You will join a global team of lawyers project managers and other professionals who have a strong regulatory awareness and background and who understand the risks to the lines of business and JPMorgan of non-compliance with laws regulations and rules.You will use your strong analytical communication and collaborative skills to advise other members of the Legal Department as well as to our compliance controls and business partners in connection with a broad range of matters often in a fast-paced environment. Job responsibilities
- Work closely with the rest of the Legal Department to develop and maintain an inventory of legal obligations for JPMorgan Chases businesses in the Latin American region (mainly Argentina Brazil Chile Colombia Mexico and Peru) and respond to questions from the business and corporate functions about the legal obligations.
- Monitor identify and document changes in legal and regulatory developments forthe Latin American region (mainly Argentina Brazil Chile Colombia Mexico and Peru) as necessary including providing written summaries to the Legal Department the business and other corporate functions.
- Research and analyze laws regulations and rules to assess applicability and impact to JPMorgan Chase.
- Promote evergreen efforts of the inventory focusing on quality assurance consistency completeness and accuracy of legal obligations.
- Develop subject matter expertise on products and services offered by JPMorgan Chase as required.
- Assist with the development of policies procedures and controls.
- Work closely with technology partners to develop technology solutions to support the teams work.
Required qualifications capabilities and skills
- Lawyer qualified to practice in one of the following jurisdictions Argentina Brazil Chile Colombia Peru and Mexico with a minimum of 2-3 years experience.
- English fluency (written and spoken) is a must.
- Background in financial services regulation or supporting another highly regulated business.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills with the ability to clearly and concisely summarize legal and regulatory developments- in English and Spanish- for distribution to a non-legal audience.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with the business corporate functions and fellow legal and support professionals.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
- A true self-starter with the ability to work independently to manage competing priorities and coordinate among a wide range of internal stakeholders.
- Proactive problem-solver who is not afraid to explore new technologies and can demonstrate a thoughtful approach to testing and incorporating new tools into a professional environment.
Preferred qualifications capabilities and skills
- Legal experience obtained in private practice or in-house.
- Familiarity with international and federal regulation of financial products and services.
- Experience with regulatory change monitoring and compliance.
- Portuguese fluency (written and spoken) is highly desirable but not required.
Candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located (Buenos Aires Argentina) prior to the commencement of employment.
All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
