AEMO at the Heart of Energy
AEMO is Australias independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMOs purpose is to ensure safe reliable and affordable energy today and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems and our core values revolve around character commitment and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.
About the role
This role is part of the Engineering Developer Services (EDS) team a highly specialised software development team at the heart of Australias energy transition. The EDS teamoperatesat the intersection of power systems engineering software development big data and advanced analytics delivering highimpact missioncritical platforms that influence national energy strategy and missioncritical platforms that influence national energy strategy and operational criticalplatforms that influence national energy strategy and operationaldecision-making.
This role offers the opportunity to work on cuttingedge hightechnology systems that are central to Australias transition to a secure reliable and sustainable electricity market. A key focus is the use of highresolution Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) data and other timesynchronised measurements to deliver unprecedented insight into power system behaviour. By enabling faster deeper and moreaccurateanalysis of system dynamics this work directly supports the safe integration of renewable generation inverterbased resources and emerging technologies such as gridscale storage and virtual power plants whilemaintainingsystem strength and resilience. The role focuses on the ongoing development of AEMOs Synchro Phasor Engineering & Computation Tool (ASPECT) which captures and stores highresolution PMU data to provide enhanced operational visibility detection and analysis of power system oscillations with a specific emphasis on subsynchronous oscillations arising in networks with high penetrations of inverterbased resources (solar wind and batteries).
This is a 12-month fixed term contract that can be based at any AEMO office.
