Description

The Assistant Director for Accommodations is responsible for the management and oversight of the delivery of accommodations coordination services to individuals with disabilities by engaging students with disabilities in an interactive process to develop accommodation plans provide support for a caseload of students and refer students to appropriate campus resources and provide education and training to campus and community partners.



Responsibilities

Administrative:

  • Assist the Director in providing strategic leadership of Student Disability Services (SDS) and functionas the senior leader in management in the Directors and Associate Directors absence
  • Work closely with SDS leadership to develop department strategic plans goals and initiatives and formulate interpret and enforce department and university policies
  • Review documentation and engage in interactive process with students to determine reasonable accommodationsincompliancewiththeAmericanswithDisabilitiesAct(ADA)Section504oftheRehabilitationActand other relevant laws and professional standards

Personnel Management:

  • Train supervise and support Access Coordinators and graduate interns
  • Conduct performance reviews for direct reports and work with leadership to develop meaningful professional developmentopportunitiesforstaff
  • RecommendappropriateappointmentstotheDirectortoensureorganizational effectiveness

Outreach:

  • Developanddelivertrainingstotheuniversitycommunity
  • Representofficeatvariouscampus events
  • Attendoccasionalweekendandeveningevents
  • Collaboratewithdepartmentsandcommunitytopromotedisability-inclusivediversity
  • CommunicatewithprospectivestudentsparentsfacultyandstaffregardingSDSservices
  • Serve as subject expert to faculty staff and patrons on disability-related accommodations and accessibility
  • Represent the Director on committees and working groups as needed.

Assessment and Compliance:

  • AssistSDSleadershipwiththecoordinationofassessmentinitiativesandreporting
  • Stay abreast of Office for Civil Rights case files and review current practices for effectiveness of accommodations and compliance
  • Contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures based on best practices.

Fiscal Management:

  • Assist SDS leadership in developing and monitoring annual department expenditure budgets
  • Ensurethatsupervisedareasarefollowingproperfiscalpoliciesandproceduresfortheexpenditureoffundsanddonot exceed budgeted funds.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education:Masters degree
  • Experience:3years ofexperienceworkingwith studentswithdisabilitiesinahighereducationsetting.Experienceevaluatingdocumentation
  • Knowledge Skills Abilities:Strongleadershipsupervisoryorganizationcommunication(oralandwritten)interpersonaland problem-solvingskills;Abilityto exercise sound judgment and display a professional demeanor; Strong knowledge of section 504 if the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and other relevant laws

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience:5years of experienceworkingwithstudentswithdisabilitiesinahighereducationsetting
  • Knowledge Skills Abilities:Abilitytoeffectivelymanagebudget;Strongknowledgeofthe FamilyEducationalRightsandPrivacyAct(FERPA)andother appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disability

  • Anticipated hiring range:The anticipated starting salary for a candidate meeting the minimum requirements will be $56500 per year.
