Job Title: Full-Time English Teacher

Status: Regular Full-Time (5 loads)

Work Year: Mid-August to Mid-June

Classification: Exempt

Supervisor: Principal and Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction

Salary Range: $61700 - $92000 (paid over 12 months)

Flintridge Sacred Heart is a Catholic Dominican independent college-preparatory day and boarding high school whose mission is to educate young women for a life of faith integrity and truth. We are seeking a full-time English teacher. Successful candidates must have a strong background in English literature and commensurate skill as a writing instructor. The teacher will use frequent and varied assessment methods to gauge student progress and provide feedback. The ideal candidate will be experienced in integrating technology into their teaching and ready to consider emerging technologies to enhance learning and student engagement. We seek educators who are able and eager to collaborate with colleagues and students on interdisciplinary research projects and have experience with instructional technology and innovative teaching strategies. All faculty are involved in co-curricular programs and should share in a commitment to a holistic approach to educating our young women.

Essential Job Functions

  • Teach 4 blocks of English and this position includes one additional block assisting students in the Writing Center.
  • The courses taught will be based upon the department needs.
  • Plan and deliver engaging inclusive instruction while managing the full feedback loop of grading and assessment within a classroom environment dedicated to nurturing faith integrity and student growth
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust instructional strategies
  • Exhibit excellent classroom management and leadership skills
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to plan curriculum and assessments and work with the counselors and learning specialists to meet student academic needs
  • Communicating proactively and consistently with students and families regarding student growth and development
  • Participate in department school and parent meetings
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy by actively participating in the schools culture of inquiry and seek out opportunities for professional development to enhance content knowledge and pedagogical skill
  • Other duties deemed necessary by the Principal Assistant Principal and Department Chair


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in English or other relevant areas. Masters degree preferred.
  • 3 years of high school teaching experience is preferred.
  • Current teaching certification preferred
  • English Language Learner certification preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of instructional strategies relating to and for the writing process
  • Experience with technology for instruction and record keeping and/or an enthusiastic willingness to be trained to employ new tools
  • Proficiency in curriculum planning instruction and assessing student mastery of course standards
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
