The Social Foundations Programwithin the College of Education draws upon a broad range of disciplines and fields to examine formal and informal education namely history sociology philosophy comparative and international education policy and cultural studies. The program serves multiple undergraduate and graduate programs and offers a Graduate Certificate (Interdisciplinary Perspectives in Global Education) an Undergraduate Minor (Global Studies in Education) and a study abroad program.



Responsibilities

The Social Foundations program in the College of Education at the University of South Florida invites applicants for a full-time 9-month non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Instruction position beginning in August of 2026. This position is permanent and successful candidates are eligible for promotion to Associate Professor of Instruction and the terminal rank of Professor of seek candidates committed to delivering engaging academic experiences that promote student success in and out of the classroom.

This position will carry a 4:4 load (Summer teaching possibilities based on student demand) and will be responsible for delivering high-quality undergraduate instruction. Primary responsibilities include teaching multiple sections of EDF 2005 Introduction to the Teaching Profession in both online and in-person formats. Teaching also includes preparing monitoring and evaluating students for their required 15-hour field observation. Additional responsibilities may include teaching other undergraduate and graduate social foundations courses such as Schools and Society and involvement in college-wide recruitment andretention initiatives. Successful candidates may also be responsible for coordinating and supervising field experiences mentoringundergraduatestudents supporting student social engagement such as assisting with student organizations and maintaining involvement in professional organizations.



Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Social Foundations or related field
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in PK-12 schools.
  • Prior or current teaching certificate.
  • Evidence of continual professional learning.
  • Experienceteaching undergraduate courses.
  • Experience mentoring FTIC (First Time in College) students.
  • Experience in supervising university student groups.
  • Record of involvement in professional organizations.
  • Strong academic background and professional experience in social justice multicultural education and socio-cultural studies.
  • A demonstrated commitment to student success.
  • A demonstrated commitment to program college and university service.
  • A demonstrated commitment to collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in supervising and coordinating field experiences
  • Successfulteachingexperience(inbothtraditionalandonline formats)in undergraduatecourse
  • Evidence of support and advocacy for pre-service teachers and the teaching profession
  • ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) training
  • Clinical education training or experience in a teacher education program supervising student field work.
  • Experience using problem-solving skills as it relates to school-university partnerships
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level classes and/or conducting research on sociopolitical issues in education
