Position Description:
Reporting to the production supervisors the incumbent will work closely with project leaders to set-up new jobs on CNC vertical & horizontal machining centers and train machine operators on these jobs.
Primary Responsibilities:
Machine Setup:
- Set up CNC machines by installing and adjusting tools fixtures and machine settings based on production plans and technical drawings.
- Configure machine parameters such as speeds feeds and coolant flow to match the material and design requirements.
- Conduct test runs and make necessary adjustments to ensure machines are set up correctly before production begins.
Technical Proficiency:
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings blueprints and CAD models to determine the setup requirements.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools and fixtures for each job.
- Ensure proper alignment and calibration of machine components to achieve precise machining results.
Quality Assurance:
- Perform initial inspections of machined parts to verify accuracy and conformance to specifications.
- Utilize measuring instruments such as calipers micrometers and gauges to check part dimensions.
- Identify and troubleshoot setup-related issues making adjustments to eliminate defects and improve quality.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of machine setups including tooling configurations and parameter settings.
- Document any changes or deviations from standard setups and report issues to supervisors.
- Keep accurate logs of production activities and part inspections.
Maintenance and Safety:
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures ensuring a safe working environment.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace properly storing tools and equipment.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with CNC operators programmers and engineers to optimize machine setups and improve production efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with team members to address setup issues and ensure smooth production flow.
- Provide guidance and support to CNC operators on machine setup and troubleshooting.
Required Skills & Expertise:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in CNC machining or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years experience in CNC machine setup or a similar role.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of CNC machine operations and setup procedures.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and perform detailed inspections.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with CNC programming software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment as needed.
- Stamina to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Work Environment:
- The role is typically performed in a manufacturing or machine shop environment which may involve exposure to noise dust and other industrial hazards.
- Proper safety equipment and protocols are mandatory.
Equipment/ Tools/ Technology Used:
- Measuring tools and instruments such as micrometers verniers calipers height gauges or other specialized measuring instruments
