Are you an experienced equipment operator looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity The City of Edmonton is looking for people across all our rich diversity to screen handle and process waste materials at the compost curing site at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC). This position is responsible for the safe productive operation and deployment of multiple equipment related to composting operations.
What will you do
Operate specialty mobile equipment that including (but not limited to) Grinder Shredder Tracked Excavator with Hydraulic Grapple attachment Water Truck Articulating Wheel Loader
Be responsible for light maintenance and cleaning of the equipment and filling out the relevant paperwork
Identify troubleshoot and report any equipment mechanical issues
Support general cure site operations including but not limited to tarping aerated static piles assembling and running pumping equipment as well as sorting through grass leaf and yard waste dropped off by residents
Attend and participate in safety meetings and advise of any health and safety concerns
Perform other related duties as required
Completion of Grade ten (10) or equivalent or higher
Two (2) years of experience operating compost screening equipment stacking conveyors loaders horizontal grinders water truck and excavators in a composting facility environment
One (1) year heavy duty equipment operating experience required
Skills Required for Success:
Ability to operate assigned equipment skillfully safely and in conformance with applicable laws and regulations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate prepare and execute oral and written instructions
Exhibits excellent skills in collaboration teamwork and fostering a positive work environment that seeks to bring out the best in everyone

Conditions of Employment:
Compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including being fit-tested for and wearing a N95 respirator and steel-toed boots is required for this position
A valid Alberta Class 3 drivers license with Air Brake (or provincial equivalent) as well as obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

Work Environment:
Ability to perform work in adverse weather conditions uneven terrain and near dusty or allergenic materials
This position entails sorting materials manually and with machines
The successful candidate must be capable and willing to work shift work. This may include mornings afternoons & or nights. Rotating shifts may also be implemented as required
