RECREATION Pottery Instructor

(May include but are not limited to the following):

• Teach pottery/ceramic classes by leading and demonstrating techniques associated with the subject matter
• Maintainasafefriendlyandinclusiveclassenvironmentforallparticipants
• Adjust class as appropriate and as needed to meet the various skill levels of participants
• Develop curriculum for each class meeting
• Knowledge of glazing and firing techniques
• Develop projects to keep class interesting for both regular and repeat participants
• Maintain documentation as required
• Report to work in a timely manner and appropriately prepared

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; AND
A minimum of 2 years as a professional potter or ceramicist; AND
A minimum of 1 year of experience teaching *additional years of professional studio work may be substituted for teaching experience.

Knowledge of:

• Pottery and ceramic techniques including centering wheel throwing slab rolling wedging hand-building low- and high-firing and glazing are required.
• Experience with alternative firing techniques is desirable but not required.

• Work autonomously and as part of a team
• Develop new and interesting class curriculum
• Work with students of all levels and skill sets simultaneously

• Degree(s) in pottery/ceramics
• Practicing ceramicist/potter with exhibition and studio experience
• Experience with alternative firing techniques
