Job Summary
The Nursing Practice Placement Coordinator plans organizes implements and collects evaluative feedback on all student practice placements within the undergraduate nursing program. Oversees and provides clinical technical expertise within the undergraduate BSN program. He or she also teaches within the undergraduate BSN program in areas related to their expertise.


This is a 0.78FTE (27 hours per week) role and the salary will be reflected based on the FTE.

The expected start date for this position is May 1 2026.

Organizational Status
The Nursing Practice Placement Coordinator reports to Associate Director of the School of consultation with the Associate Director and BSN Program Team leaders the Nursing Practice Placement Coordinator plans and organizes all student practice placements and is the primary student contact. The primary contact for all students and communicates with students to provide practice placement guidelines and to obtain student preferences. The Nursing Practice Placement Coordinator communicates student practice placement requests via HSPnet.

Work Performed
The Nursing Practice Placement Coordinator works closely with the Associate Director to carry out the following responsibilities:

- Liaises with the BSN Program Team Leaders to plan organize and develop practice placements for BSN student placements across all practice placements and across all sites (i.e. hospital community provincial national and international).

- Planning organizes and develops appropriate BSN student practice placements across all sites (i.e. hospital community provincial national and international).

- Collaborates with BSN Program Team Leaders to match students to appropriate practice assignments and in specialty focus practicums.

- Uses judgment to match students to appropriate practice assignments.

- Works closely with BSN Program Team Leaders and Associate Director regarding the location and number of practice groups each semester and the integration of returning and transferring students.

- Responsible for the integration of returning and transferring student into the practice placement schedules.

- Acts as the co-primary contact for all students obtain student preferences.

- Collaborates with the BSN Program Team Leaders to produce draft practice placement schedules.

- Maintains the Practice Placement Communication Bulletin Board on Connect where regular and timely practice placement information is communicated to students.

- Acts as the co-primary person to whom students communicate re practice placement concerns.

- Responds to emails related to practice placements in a timely manner usually within 24 hours.

- Responsible for the co-ordination of UBC Okanagan BSN student placements with Okanagan College BSN and LPN Programs and with other health care programs.

- Responsible for special projects such as preceptorship workshops for practice sites.

- Responsible for the processes of preceptor support and recognition.

- Supports the visits of practice sites as necessary when securing placements becomes challenging and urgent.

- In consultation with the BSN Program Team Leaders reports to the Associate Director on the quality and content of practice experiences for students.

- Participates in identifying new opportunities for practice education.

- Teaches within the undergraduate BSN program as assigned by the Associate Director.



Consequence of Error/Judgement
This person works closely with the School of Nursing Leadership Team to make initial decisions about student placement and to ensure timelines for practice placements are met. All practice experiences are integral to nursing students completing course work meeting the required competencies of a graduate nurse and becoming safe practicing nurses.

This person has access to all internal student files as well as Workday and uses this information to inform his or her decisions about student placement. The work is not directly checked but is reported on to the Associate Director.

Judgment reliability accuracy and skilled communications are required for the timely arrangement of clinical groups particularly in placing students who have experienced challenges in the practice setting. Judgment accuracy and skilled communications are required in responding to the multiple student requests for particular placements or when students are requesting alternate placements. Judgment is also required in balancing the needs of the students against the requests of the teachers. Judgment is required in prioritizing the multiple and varied placements required.

Consequences of inappropriate judgments unreliable performance inaccuracy or miscommunications may include inappropriate practice placements tensions and frustrations for both students and teachers and may jeopardize relationships with practice partners and tension within the School of Nursing.


Supervision Received
The Practice Placement Coordinator works in close collaboration with the Associate Director on practice placement responsibilities and reports with BSN Program Team Leaders on practice placement matters to the Associate Director.

In relation to teaching responsibilities this position reports to the Associate Director


Supervision Given
The Practice Placement Coordinator works independently with indirect supervision working closely with the Associate Director.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Nursing and Registered Nurse with BCCNP

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing ones own awareness knowledge and skills related to equity diversity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

BSN/BScN preparation required and a minimum of 2 years of related work experience. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to facilitate the interaction of several diverse groups i.e. students faculty preceptors agency managers and directors and support staff.

Demonstrated organizational analytical and problem-solving skills.

Credibility with the practice community.

Related experience with health-related academic programs working with health professions and practice educators and inter-professional education and curriculum are an asset.

Initiative is required to exercise timely appropriate judgment while working with competing priorities and demands.

Ability to take initiative exercise good judgment and work in a team environment.

Ability to obtain and disseminate accurate information (i.e. practice policies preceptorship handbooks etc.).

Demonstrated ability to prioritize work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Proven ability to exercise confidentiality sensitivity tact and discretion.

Computer experience required including word processing database web-based spreadsheet software.

Demonstrated familiarity with and/or develop familiarity with HSPNet.
