Safety Health and Environment Officer
The successful incumbent will report directly to the General Manager.
Job Description
Provide support and guidance to managers on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) matters within the organisation
Investigate incidents using root cause analysis tools and compile detailed reports
Implement monitor and enforce compliance with OHS legislation
Conduct OHS audits
Review and update safety management systems and associated training programmes
Monitor and report on incidents and accidents
Provide first responder assistance during medical emergencies (during and after hours)
Compile and present weekly monthly and quarterly reports
Participate in workplace committees and forums
Assist and participate in firefighting operations
Manage site emergency preparedness
Handle Injury on Duty (IOD) mitigation and management
Oversee contractor management processes
Ensure site environmental management and compliance
Maintain risk registers
Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements
Education / Skills
SAMTRAC qualification or equivalent
Occupational Health and Safety Act training certificate
Firefighting and emergency procedures training
Minimum of 3 years relevant experience ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act within a forestry-related industry
First aid / medical response training
Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel and PowerPoint)
Strong administrative skills
Valid drivers licence
Person Requirements
Well-organised and detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure
Comfortable liaising across all organisational levels
Ability to meet deadlines consistently
Strong verbal and written communication skills in business English
Ability to communicate in isiXhosa will be advantageous
Good report-writing capability
Sound problem-solving skills
Thorough knowledge of health and safety systems and legal requirements with proven implementation ability
