This position is for an emergency medical technician training course that will last approximately 12-16 weeks. Upon successful completion of the training program the candidate will transition into an open full time role within WellSpan EMS.
General Summary
The Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) Trainee position is an entry-level opportunity designed for individuals interested in beginning a career in emergency medical services. This unique role requires no prior EMS experience or certification and serves as a pathway to becoming a certified selected for the position will be enrolled in a state-approved EMT-Basic course as a condition of employment with all associated training costs covered. During the program trainees will receive classroom instruction hands-on clinical training and field experience under the supervision of licensed EMS successful completion of the course and certification exam trainees will transition into fully operational EMT-Basic roles within the organization. This position is ideal for motivated individuals with a strong work ethic commitment to public service and a desire to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
- Successful completion of the accelerated 10-week Emergency Medical Technician-Basic program.
- Successful completion of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians written examination.
- Responds to EMS calls whether emergency or routine transport observes safety policies and operates an emergency vehicle with due regard for others. This will occur under the direct supervision of an approved preceptor within WellSpan EMS.
- Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members. This will occur under the direct supervision of an approved preceptor within WellSpan EMS.
- Assists in patient assessments. This will occur under the direct supervision of an approved preceptor within WellSpan EMS.
- Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
- Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
Common Expectations:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
- Demonstrates a commitment to zero harm to patients visitors and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and error proof systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
- Maintains established policies and procedures objectives quality assessment safety environmental and infection control standards.

- High School Diploma or GED Required
Licenses:
- Basic Life Support Required
Drivers License Statement:
Must possess a valid drivers license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
