Wilson School District is seeking an energetic detail-oriented Student Intern to support our Business Department. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in school finance and public sector accounting while working with experienced professionals.
This part-time internship offers a competitive hourly rate of $18.50 and follows a 12-month schedule. Ideal for candidates pursuing a degree in accounting finance business or a related field.
JOB SUMMARY
Wilson Elementary School District #7 is seeking a motivated and detail oriented Business Support Intern to support the Districts Business Office. This paid part time one year student internship is designed for students currently enrolled in an Accounting or Finance degree program who are interested in gaining hands on experience in public sector accounting and school district financial operations. This position supports purchasing accounts payable payroll documentation and monthly cash reconciliation preparation while working under close supervision. The internship is structured as a developmental role and is intended to build toward a potential permanent hire upon successful completion.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Purchasing and Procurement Support
- Accounts Payable Support
- Cash and Bank Reconciliation Support
- Compliance and Internal Controls
Assist with:
- Assist with purchase requisitions and purchase order processing
- Verify purchasing documentation complies with USFR and School District Procurement Rules
- Assist with collecting and retaining required vendor quotes and cooperative documentation
- Support monitoring of purchasing timelines to ensure approvals occur prior to expenditures
- Maintain organized procurement files to support audits and monitoring reviews
- Assist with invoice review for completeness accuracy and proper approvals
- Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation
- Support timely processing of payments to avoid late fees and penalties
- Maintain organized accounts payable records in accordance with record retention requirements
- Identify discrepancies and flag items for review by senior finance staff
- Assist with reviewing payroll documentation for completeness and accuracy
- Assist with maintaining organized payroll and personnel files in compliance with USFR requirements
- Assist with preparation of monthly bank reconciliations using district approved templates
- Match bank activity to accounting system detail and supporting documentation
- Identify reconciling items and flag discrepancies for review
- Assist with reconciliation support for payroll clearing and insurance withholding accounts
- Maintain organized reconciliation files for audit and oversight purposes
- Assist with maintaining documentation supporting internal controls and segregation of duties
- Support retention of journal entry documentation prepared by others
- Assist with capital asset and stewardship documentation support
- Maintain compliance tracking logs for assigned tasks
- Follow District policies procedures and internal controls
- Participate in job embedded training and professional development
- Perform such other tasks as may be assigned.

Wilson a school board member. The district name was changed in the mid-1930s to Hawkins School. From Wilson to Hawkins to Ward to Skiff the District was bought by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and relocated to its current location in the early 1980s and named Wilson Primary and Wilson Elementary opening on Martin Luther King Day in 1985. The district boundaries cover an area from Roosevelt Street to the north; the Salt River to the south; 40th Street to the east; and 16th Street to the west.
