Description

Reusable systems with frequent launch cadence are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. A highly operable reliable safe and robust ground system is an integral part of a fully reusable launch system. As a Launch Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Engineer for our dedicated launch complex at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station you will be responsible for developing commissioning and operating a new launch pad from scratch. You will be responsible for EH&S across Stokes Florida sites including developing maintaining & executing Stokes environmental stewardship and ensuring Stokes operations set the standard for employee and environment health and safety. As part of a small well-supported team you will have access to the resources you need to get the job done right while simultaneously boosting your skills at a pace that cant be matched in most other roles. You must be ready to stay focused move fast self-direct and learn on the fly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop own and drive overall EHS strategy for critical facilities and site operations in support of launch site development launch vehicle processing & testing and launch operations
  • Develop implement and enforce EHS policies procedures and protocols and implement industry best standards and practices
  • Ensure design build and operations comply with local state and federal regulations
  • Complete system safety hazard analyses and job specific hazard assessments
  • Review and approve launch complex hazardous procedures
  • Support anomaly investigation(s) response and closure
  • Implement engineering controls to eliminate or reduce likelihood of occupation and compliance risk
  • Implement and maintain environmental and safety management systems
  • Investigate document report and resolve workplace incidents
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining hazard clear areas
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams
  • Develop and maintain Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures (SPCC) industrial wastewater permitting and Light Management Plans (LMPs)
  • Develop and manage Environmental Baseline Surveys (EBS) Biological Assessments (BA) and Environmental Assessments (EA) including all supporting analyses and surveys
  • Coordinate with local state and federal agencies including FDEP SLD 45 FAA & NASA
  • Develop and provide contractor and staff training
  • Maintain and improve EHS throughout operations
  • Cultivate and maintain a strong safety culture at the Launch site

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in a related role working EH&S through new site construction as well as operations supporting high-performance applications (space aviation amusement park oil & gas heavy equipment energy systems and/or maritime)
  • Proven experience developing and implementing system safety and occupational safety programs
  • Experience standing up and running EHS programs including OSHA fall protection lockout/tagout confined space hot work job site safety hazmat and waste streams
  • Experience utilizing and maintaining common EHS tools utilized in a launch complex environment including hazardous gas detectors FLIR cameras and sound meters
  • Proven ability to lead work autonomously receive and incorporate constructive feedback and work well on a high performing team
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certified

  • Bachelors degree in systems engineering mechanical engineering aerospace engineering EHS or similar field.
  • Willing to relocate to Cape Canaveral FL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working hazardous operations including high pressure gas systems cryogenic liquid systems high power systems and/or explosive ordnance
  • Launch operations experience as a member of a pad entry team or Red Team member
  • Familiarity with AFSPCMAN 91-710 MSPSP and HazOp range requirements as well as DoD explosive siting for launch vehicle programs
  • Experience working with 45th SW 30th SW NASA ATF Coast Guard and/or Port Canaveral
  • Masters degree in engineering management EHS or similar field

Compensation

Target Levels:

  • Level 3: $123000 - $184400
  • Level 4: $144100 - $240100
