This role is based in our 240 Blackfriars office.
The Communications Associate will be responsible for managing public relations and external communications for all events and event brands within the Partnering and Investment Event (PIE) portfolio of the Life Sciences vertical at Informa Connect including the flagship event in the portfolio; BioEurope. This role will serve as the primary point of contact for press relations ensuring consistent and effective communication with media outlets and will oversee the press room onsite at events. Reporting to the Head of Audience and Partnerships the Communications Associate will work closely with cross-functional teams to align communication strategies with broader marketing and business objectives.
Media Relations & Event Communications (65%)
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for individual PIE events and where appropriate the collective PIE portfolio.
- Work closely with PR agencies to develop and distribute press releases ensuring alignment with event messaging and brand guidelines.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets journalists and industry influencers to secure coverage for events and initiatives.
- Manage press registrations vet media attendees and act as the primary point of contact for press inquiries.
- Oversee the press room at PIE conferences ensuring a seamless experience for media attendees.
- Provide pre- and post-event press briefings to media and internal teams.
- Monitor media coverage track metrics and prepare comprehensive reports with actionable insights.
- Identify trending topics emerging industry conversations and competitor activities to inform communication strategies.
- Develop and execute pre-event on-site and post-event communication plans including press room management and media engagement.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging across all communications.
Content Creation & Strategic Messaging (20%)
- Draft compelling press releases media alerts and thought leadership pieces for event announcements speaker reveals and company milestones.
- Create engaging blog content articles and executive interviews to highlight industry insights and event highlights.
- Develop media briefs fact sheets and talking points for executives.
- Support the creation of marketing content and messaging that aligns with PIE events including expert content and social media campaigns.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment of content with broader marketing strategies.
Event Promotion & Brand Building (10%)
- Develop and execute plans for event promotion at booths during PIE and third-party events.
- Design event booths in collaboration with Account Management Operations and Marketing teams.
- Manage updates to event content pages such as News and Insights.
- Source new PR opportunities trends and tools to enhance brand visibility.
- Support awards and recognition programmes including messaging data analysis and liaising with award committees.
Analytics & Reporting (5%)
- Monitor and report on brand sentiment media coverage and social media engagement.
- Prepare monthly PR performance reports with ROI analysis and recommendations.
- Analyse media results to inform KPIs and improve future communication strategies.
Key Metrics for Success
- Media Coverage: Number and quality of media outlets providing favourable coverage of the brand.
- Brand Awareness: Measured through direct audience surveys and media impact.
- Social Media Engagement: Engagement rates including likes shares comments and other interactions across online channels.
- Event Visibility: Success of press room management and media engagement at events.
Qualifications :
Experience & Education
- 24 years of experience in a Public Relations Communications or Marketing role preferably in B2B events or life sciences.
- Experience working with PR agencies and managing press releases.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong research analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficiency in media monitoring tools (e.g. Cision Meltwater) and press release distribution platforms (e.g. PR Newswire Business Wire).
- Familiarity with social media management and content creation for professional platforms (e.g. LinkedIn X).
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with media contacts and industry stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A proactive self-starter mindset with a passion for storytelling and brand building.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the life sciences technology or events industry.
- Knowledge of AP style media best practices and crisis communication principles.
- Basic understanding of SEO principles for content optimisation.
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g. Asana )
