Job Summary

Established in 1972 Mount Vernon School serves over 1250 students in Preschool through Grade 12 on our 40-acre Atlanta campus. The Team

The Lower School Team works collaboratively to teach foundational literacies and build hands-on inquiry/project-based experiences for students. Each grade-level team is led by a Head of Grade and works with a Learning Coach to meet the needs of each individual student. Leveraging tools and resources such as visible thinking routines off-campus expeditions mindfulness/SEL internal/external experts and a team of connectors (Maker Performing Arts Physical Educator Science Spanish Visual Arts) the Lower School team is able to activate agency and imagination for our learners who are ready to make an impact today.


The Role

Based on enrollment we will be seeking passionate and innovative teachers at various grade levels (Kindergarten through Grade 5) for the 2026-27 school year. Ideal candidates will have a passion for blending best-in-class curriculum/pedagogies (Orton-Gillingham Bridges Math Handwriting without Tears Core Knowledge) with innovative inquiry-based projects and units (using visible thinking routines design thinking project-based learning off-campus experiences etc.) to help students realize their academic passions and spark curiosity in a dynamic hands-on environment. Successful Lower School teachers have strong organizational skills and a passion for differentiation which help our learners progress at their own rate in a competency-driven environment.


Responsibilities

  • Facilitating daily hands-on learning experiences and assessments with students
  • Co-designing curriculum and assessment with the grade-level team with attention to differentiation and individualization
  • Maintaining comprehensive records of performance progress and goals using Toddle LMS
  • Communicating with families learning coaches and outside providers
  • Actively participating in professional growth opportunities and weekly school/division/team meetings
  • Meeting the needs of the division by helping with weekly coverage and duties
  • Supporting students at seasonal after-school events

  • Understanding of competency-based assessment/mastery approach to learning
  • Knowledge of inquiry-based learning pedagogies (project based learning visible thinking routines question formulation techniques design thinking)
  • Proficiency in Google Suite & Mac/Apple OS
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education Elementary Education or a related field
  • Orton-Gillingham literacy training (strongly preferred)
  • Teaching certificate (preferred)
  • 3 years of classroom teaching experience (preferred)
