Senior Bookkeeper
Growth Path into Tax and CFO Support
Full time Independent Contractor
Remote (US EST work hours)
Role Overview
We are hiring a Senior Bookkeeper who can think critically review work and help build scalable systems. This role goes beyond transaction processing. The right candidate will be comfortable troubleshooting issues within the financials cleaning up balance sheet accounts and improving workflows.
There is also meaningful opportunity to assist with tax preparation and CFO-level work including forecasting analysis dashboard preparation and client support.
This is a high-impact role working directly with the owner. We are looking for someone who wants ownership and long-term growth not just a task-based position.

Core Responsibilities
Monthly Close and Bookkeeping Oversight
- Review bookkeeping completed by junior staff
- Ensure bank and credit card reconciliations are accurate and complete
- Review and maintain balance sheet accounts including clearing suspense accrual and miscellaneous accounts
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial statements
- Ensure financials are clean and ready for reporting
- Investigate and resolve accounting issues at the root cause
- Identify recurring errors and implement preventative processes
- Improve monthly close workflows and internal systems
- Help document procedures and build repeatable accounting processes
- Contribute ideas for improving efficiency and scalability
This role includes exposure to advisory and strategic finance work including:
- Assisting with budgeting and financial forecasting
- Supporting cash flow modeling
- Preparing dashboards and KPI reports
- Assisting with financial analysis and margin review
- Supporting client onboarding processes
- Participating in client meetings when appropriate
The role may include assistance with:
- Individual and business tax return preparation
- Organizing and preparing tax workpapers
- Year-end reconciliations and tax adjustments
- Gathering and reviewing client documentation
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience with QuickBooks Online (expert level)
- Solid understanding of balance sheet accounts and reconciliations
- Experience reviewing bookkeeping work
- Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Experience working with U.S.-based clients
- Exposure to U.S. GAAP
- Experience with multi-location or restaurant accounting
- Payroll journal entry experience
- Experience supporting fractional CFO or advisory services
- Prior tax preparation experience
