We are partnering with a market-leading mechanical construction firm in the Greater Boston area to hire a Controller to lead its accounting organization and partner directly with executive leadership.
Reporting to the CFO this role oversees a 10-person accounting team within a complex union project-driven environment. The Controller will own financial reporting job costing integrity and operational partnership across the business. This is a highly visible leadership position with long-term growth potential.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with deep construction accounting expertise who has operated in a WIP-driven percentage-of-completion environment and understands the realities of partnering with Project Management and field operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a 10-person team across GL AP AR/Billing and Payroll
- Own monthly quarterly and annual financial reporting
- Oversee WIP schedules revenue recognition (percent-complete) and margin analysis
- Manage progress billing pay applications retainage and collections strategy
- Partner with Project Managers to ensure accurate forecasting and job cost reporting
- Oversee union payroll complexity including multi-rate and fringe allocations
- Lead audit coordination tax compliance and internal controls
- Drive process improvements and optimize construction ERP utilization
Qualifications
- CPA required
- Progressive accounting leadership experience
- Significant construction industry experience (mechanical MEP specialty subcontractor or large GC environment preferred)
- Deep expertise in job costing WIP reporting change orders and margin fade/gain analysis
- Experience in union payroll environments
- Proven leadership of 815 person accounting teams
- Construction ERP experience (CMiC strongly preferred; Sage/Timberline or similar acceptable)
