The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. LOCATION OF POSITION

Baltimore City- Home Detention Unit

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of thisposition is to monitor participant compliance with the rules of the CentralHome Detention Unit as set forth in the Annotated Code of Maryland and invarious other statutory documents. This position is vested with arrestauthority over program violators and works independently in the community.

POSITION DUTIES

Routinely and randomly patrolin various communities across the State of Maryland and visit programparticipants in their homes or in other assigned areas to ensure theirconformance with rules and proceduresof the Home Detention inspections for fires and safety hazards. Performs testing and searchesfor alcohol drugs and addition detects program violations andtakes appropriate action to include counseling writing reports actualphysical apprehension and return to custody and making criminal arrests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or high schoolequivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education asdescribed in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience: Three years of experience as a Correctional Officerinvolving the custody and security of adult inmates.

Notes:

1. The above educational requirement is set by the CorrectionalTraining Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article Section8-209.

2. Candidates may substitute additional education at an accreditedcollege or university at the rate of sixty credit hours for one year of therequired experience provided that a minimum of 15 credit hours are in the fieldof criminal justice or related social sciences.

3. Candidates may substitute equivalent State experience in otherclassifications within the correctional field which involve daily contact withand custody of inmates for the required experience. Qualifying experience mustbe in a classification where the salary is comparable to that of CorrectionalOfficer II.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience in correctional classifications or correctional specialty codes inthe criminal justice field of work equivalent to a Correctional Officer II on ayear-for-year basis for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Thisposition is limited to currentDepartmentof Public Safety & Correctional Servicesemployees who are Correctional Officer Sergeants and or eligible for Sergeants.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classificationmay be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to operatebusses for the transportation of inmates. Employees assigned such duties willbe required to acquire a Class B Commercial Drivers License with passenger andair brakes endorsements valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees who have not alreadydone so must meet the selection standards required and successfully completethe training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for acorrectional officer during their probationary period (Correctional ServicesArticle Section 8-209). Selection standards for correctional officer trainingare listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12 Subtitle 10Chapter 01 and include the following:

or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
A completed background investigation
Oral interview
Physical Agility Test.

2. Employees in this classification hired or reinstated on orafter July 1 2016 shall successfully complete the Entrance Level Firearms Training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission (Code ofMaryland 12.10.04.04 and 12.10.04.05) and demonstrate practical knowledge andproficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.

3. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24hours a day and therefore must provide the employing agency with a telephonenumber where they can be reached.

4. Employees in this classification are subject to substanceabuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09 Testingfor Illegal Use of Drugs.

5. Employees in this classification are subject to satisfactorily complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission. (Correctional Services Article 3-412)

Personal Leave - new State employees areawarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
