Job Description
The Department of Residential Life Housing and Food Services is committed to providingstudents with resources and experiences that will complement their academics. The department iscommitted to providing services for our residents that far exceed mere room and board. TheGraduate Resident Director position is an integral part of the department team.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance and supervision of the Associate Director of Residential Life as well as adesignated Resident Director the Graduate Resident Director will support residence hall operations in areas including but not limited to residential programming student staffsupervision and facility oversight.
Specific duties will vary depending on assignments and the needs of the department but mayinclude the following:
Supervise or assist with supervision of 4-16 paraprofessionals.
Assist with the recruitment selection and training of student staff.
Participate in on-call duty rotation providing 24-hour crisis response.
Coordinate and facilitate the residential curriculum.
Advise leadership council.
Promote restorative justice through educational conversations.
Assist with or coordinate front desk operations.
Assist with or coordinate housing operations including follow-up on maintenance needsas well as maintaining key control and room condition reports.
Assist with opening closing and finals week activities.
Participate in the on-call duty rotation and maintain availability and visibility during nonbusiness hours for night weekend and holiday programming and events.
Other duties as assigned including various administrative tasks needed for operating aresidence hall.
Participate in at least one additional committee/departmental area as assigned. Someoptions could include: Student Staff Recruitment & Selection Committee Student Staff Training & Development Committee & Diversity & Social Justice Committee
Required Qualifications
To be eligible for an assistantship students must be admitted to an aid eligible degree-grantingprogram at the University of Nevada Reno and be in good academic standing (Self-SupportedPrograms such as Extended Studies certificates or online programs do not qualify for aid)
Successful candidates must maintain an overall graduate studies GPA of at least 3.00
Mustbe continuously enrolled in at least 6 graduate level credits throughout the duration of theassistantship
Excellent written and verbal skills
Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word
Interpersonal skills
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work in a team environment and independently as needed.
Ability to travel or if expected to drive a state vehicle must have Nevada State DriversLicense or ability to obtain one within required time period
Carry out physical activity requirements commensurate with duties of the position up multiple flights of stairs in case of emergency lift 25 pounds etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
Training education supervision leadership experience OR experience in two of the followingareas:
Community event planning
Assessment
Student development theory
Residential community management
Crisis management
General business/administrative functions
Remuneration:
This 11-month renewable position (with potential option to work summers with a separateagreement as needed) includes the following:
An allotted stipend dependent on degree track and program
An allotted meal plan while classes are in session
Medical insurance coverage
In-state tuition paid for up to 10 credits per semester (10 Credits for Fall 10 Credits forSpring).
Out-of-state students will receive a waiver of the difference between out-of-state tuition and in-state tuition for up to four semesters for Masters degree seeking students and six semesters for Doctoral degree-seeking students
The student is financially responsible for all student fees relevant to their status asa Graduate Student.
Summer tuition coverage may be available.
Professional development funds for conference attendance may also be available.
Schedule
This assistantship requires candidates to work an average of 30 hours per week and is an 11-month contract typically beginning in July and ending in May. The Graduate Resident Directorposition will at times be required to work during non-business hours such as nights weekendsand some holiday to complete relevant programming events and activities.
