The training contract consists of two years qualifying work experience (or period of recognised training) comprising four six-month seats in the following practice areas:
(i) Private Client;
(ii) Family;
(iii) Property (Residential/Commercial/Landed Estates); and
(iv) Corporate & Commercial.
In addition some experience may be available in Dispute Resolution and Charities on an ad hoc basis.
Our training programme focuses on the development of essential practical legal skills including drafting documents and correspondence maintaining and developing client relationships and conducting legal research. We believe in a hands on approach to training and as they progress trainees will be given increasing responsibility and client contact.
Key Responsibilities
Trainees will be asked to undertake a mix of substantive and procedural tasks. They will be expected to assist on all aspects of case progression under partner supervision. Tasks are likely to include:
- conducting legal research;
- preparing letters/notes of advice;
- attending client meetings and making attendance notes;
- briefing barristers on clients cases and attending conferences with counsel;
- drafting applications to court and supporting witness statements;
- preparing court bundles; attending court hearings and taking a note;
- assisting in the preparing of contractual documents wills and trusts;
- liaising with clients on fee estimates and costs.
Administrative duties include:
- maintaining your training record;
- completing daily time recording
- following procedures for opening maintaining and closing files.
Trainees will receive initial and ongoing compliance training.
They will be expected to assist with/participate in marketing and business development initiatives including writing blogs/articles and attending networking events.
Tasks will involve working on own initiative as well as teamwork. Trainees are expected to communicate clearly and appropriately with clients colleagues and third parties.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Applicants will be expected to have:
- at least a 2:1 degree with minimum grades of AAB at A Level in an academic subject. A law degree is not essential.
- passed the LPC or passed SQE1 and sat SQE2 before they commence their training contract.

- analytical skills.
- time management skills.
