AsScientist Level 1 (Synthetic Chemistry)here at Illumina in Cambridge you will join our Synthetic Chemistry group within the globalR&Dorganisation contributing to the design and development of novel molecules that underpin the core chemistries of ourworldleadingDNA sequencing technology.

TheRole

As aScientist level 1you will work closely with experiencedPhDlevel chemists supporting innovation across multidisciplinary teams and helping to drive scientific discovery that advances human health.

Working in afastpaced collaborative environment you will prepare and analyse samples develop methods on Illumina instruments and contribute to key research programmes.

This position is suited to a recent graduate with some laboratory experience looking to begin their career as a Scientist 1.

In this role you will take ownership of results learn from senior scientists and support our value of Innovate with Purpose as you help push the boundaries of what is possible.

You will bring adegree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline such as Biochemistry (BSc or MSc) along withhandson experience gained through academic laboratory work an internship or an industrial placementwithpractical experience in synthetic or organic chemistryforming the foundation of your technical capability.

You will beconfident with routine laboratory techniquesandeager to expand yourexpertisein modern synthetic chemistry methods analytical techniques including HPLC Mass Spectrometry and NMR and experimental design. Highly motivated organised and curious you will be ready to learn and adapt within a dynamic research environment where accountability and collaboration are essential.

Yourstrong communicationskills attention to detail and ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams will help you thrive as you begin your scientific career contributing to an environment where we Win Together.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Synthesize target molecules independently using modern synthetic chemistry methods.

  • Purify analyse and fully characterise isolated molecules usingappropriate analyticaltechniques.

  • Record and document synthetic procedures analyses and results accurately andin a timely manner.

  • Present results regularly to management and at team meetings.

  • Support routine equipment and laboratory maintenance activities.

  • Collaborate with and provide support to senior scientists within the chemistry group as.
