Description of Work

LOCATION: This position is FIELD BASED.

The primary purpose of the Assistant Chief Disciplinary Hearing Officer is to:

-- Assist the Chief Disciplinary Hearing Officer in the management direction oversight and coordination of all functions pertaining to the offender disciplinary hearing process within North Carolina Division of Institutions and to supervise subordinate disciplinary hearing officers.

-- The Assistant Chief Disciplinary Hearing Officer directs the disciplinary processes through continuous system analysis review of federal and state court actions and opinions and operational evaluations.

-- In the absence of the Chief Disciplinary Hearing Officer the position is the lead agency authority and represents the department in all offender disciplinary matters.

-- The Assistant Chief will review lesson plans policy and procedures related to offender discipline and make appropriate recommendations for revisions; supervise and/or participate in auditing of facilities offender disciplinary reports and training of field staff regarding the offender disciplinary process; review disciplinary reports electronically and on-site.

Salary Range: $45926.00 - $80369.00
Salary Grade: NC12

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Documented knowledge of divisional policies and procedures including the most current disciplinary procedures and classification processes.
  • Demonstratedability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Documented knowledge and use of the offender disciplinary process.
  • Documented knowledge of OPUS and use of classification and program actions.
  • Applicants must have significant experience as an Offender Disciplinary Hearing Officer.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in utilizing OPUS to document disciplinary hearing officer decisions.
